"I now see the importance of being aware of the global picture"
Veena Krishna from India wanted to do more in depth research. She works for CNBC-TV18 and now produces TV programmes at the request of companies and institutions. According to her, it is the future in journalism. “First, I worked for the news department at CNBC and my preparation time was very limited. Too limited to travel anywhere for interviews on the spot. Also, money was lacking to do so. This didn’t satisfy me.”
Her position as an associate editor on special projects gives her more possibilities. “It is way more challenging.” She produces TV programmes on, for example, infrastructure issues, or on a specific region in India. “I’m able to invest more time in a production and I can travel around the country for research and interviews.”

She acknowledges the risk. “Before we make a deal, we guarantee our freedom to produce the story as we want. We are free to choose our approach and we never submit the product for approval. But you shouldn’t only look at the risks. I mainly see the positive side: I can be a better journalist now than when I was a news reporter,” she says
“My course at RNTC was on globalisation. Our trainer, John Russell, taught us that every day, first thing you do, is to check the international, national and local news. We live in a global world. Everything is interrelated. I realise it every day and see the importance of being aware of the full picture.”
Veena participated in the RNTC-course Broadcast Journalism in 2003.
