RNTC is a centre of excellence in the field of media, development and education.

Course aim

Worldwide, the media industry is undergoing radical change. The pace of technological innovation, the rise of new media and increased competition are making new demands on and posing new challenges to trainers and educators working in or for the media sector. The course Training the Trainers strengthens the capacity of broadcast and new media trainers and educators to (re)design and deliver their training activities to meet the challenges of today’s rapidly changing media industry.

Expected learning outcomes

Upon completing the course, the participants will be familiar with:

  • how training and education will enable media organisations and media professionals to meet the challenges of increased competition, technological change and professional mobility, while improving the quality and appropriateness of their output
  • relevant theories and practical approaches to ensure effective learning
  • different methods for training delivery, such as traditional classroom-based training, as well as more innovative methods like coaching, mentoring and computer/network-facilitated learning
  • designing and developing training solutions that are relevant to their own organisation and working situation
  • translating appropriate training objectives into practical training activities that suit the needs and possibilities of the individual learner as well as the possibilities and limitations of the trainer/training organiser/educator

Course outline

The course will reinforce the knowledge, skills and attitudes trainers, training organisers and/or educators need to organise, design and develop more effective and efficient training solutions for their organisation. Participants will become familiar withhowto formulate the contribution training can make to organisational development as well as to improve staff performance. Key concepts in training and education, such as learning objectives, (adult) learning styles, teaching methods, lifelong learning and the learning organisation will be analysed and explored. Participants will be taught various techniques for targeting and assessing specific learners and learning needs, and for formulating appropriate learning objectives. For their final assignments participants will design and practice delivering new and achievable training activities as well as focus on how to ‘sell’ these and apply them as part of a back home action plan.

Admission requirements

Applicants must meet the following admissions requirements:

  1. You are currently working as a trainer, training organiser or educator in or for the broadcast and/or new media sector
  2. You have at a minimum successfully completed secondary education, and professional education or training, and preferably have a background in working for media
  3. You are used to working with computers and have good computer skills
  4. Your speaking and writing skills in English (the course language) are sufficient
  5. You submit a letter of motivation in English (150-250 words) explaining why you want to follow the course

English language proficiency:

Since English is the working language of the course, proficiency in English is an absolute necessity. Successful candidates will have a level of proficiency in English equivalent to scores of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) for TOEFL and 6 for IELTS. If you are in doubt about whether you are sufficiently proficient in English please contact RNTC at info@rntc.nl.

After submitting a motivation letter, a phone/Skype interview will be conducted with shortlisted applicants to assess the level of understanding of spoken English and discuss expectations for the course.

Fees, costs and fellowships

The course fee of EUR 3,500 includes pick-up from the airport, insurance, and travel assignments. Participants must cover their own costs of travel, accommodation and meals. These costs are estimated at EUR 82 per day, or EUR 574 per week.
